Ross Channing Reed, through philosophical counseling, recognizes the importance of friends in self-knowledge, reason, character development, and morality. You cannot objectively observe yourself in the way your friends can who provide a different perspective. “They help us get to know ourselves.” Referencing Aristotle, “The friend is a mirror that helps refine our thinking, perception and moral understanding.” And as you observe and get to know them, you are “challenged to become a better version of yourself,” incorporating virtues like generosity, courage, truthfulness, and prudence. These values deepen integrity in relationship with yourself and your community. “Knowledge of self, others and everything else is interconnected. For Aristotle, relationships are a portal into the realms of the vast and mysterious universe.”
