The Lost Forest

The Lost Forest

An international team of scientists and explorers, lead by Dr. Julian Bayliss, go on an extraordinary mission in Mozambique to reach a forest in which no human has set foot. The team, including some of the world’s foremost climate change experts, aims to collect data from the forest to help in our understanding of how climate change is affecting our planet. But the forest sits atop a mountain, and to reach it, the team must first climb a sheer 100m wall of rock. The scientists’ work is based on research conducted by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.

— Liam Heneghan

Notes From a Full-Service Grandad

When Liam Heneghan became a grandfather, he made a quiet promise: to be fully present in his granddaughter’s life. Unlike his years as a busy father, when work and responsibilities often had pulled him away, he now devotes two full days each week to caring for his granddaughter, sharing in the ordinary rhythms of childhood. A Dublin-born ecologist, Heneghan finds himself rediscovering the natural world through her eyes — from the wonder of a passing bird to the simple delight of exploring outdoors. Along the way, he’s discovered that grandparenting offers something unexpected: a chance not only to give love, patience, and attention, but to receive the gift of seeing life anew. His story is a tender reminder that the most meaningful thing we can offer another person may be our time, freely and wholeheartedly given.
