space EditorEditor’s note: We often fail to extend kindness to others not because we are unwilling, but because we lack the courage to do so. This lack of courage may stem from our concern that by offering kindness to others, we will "offend" or "patronize" them. As Mother Teresa said so beautifully, "I prefer you to make mistakes in kindness than work miracles in unkindness." Kindness, when offered with the right spirit, is never a mistake. So go forth and be bold in kindness! –Ameeta space

Blueberries and the Art of Being Present

Do every act of your life as though it is the last act of your life.

Blueberries and the Art of Being Present

Plucking a juicy, vibrant ripe blueberry from its tree is a blissful moment for Alanda Greene. Drinking in the aroma of the fruit as she harvests the bright blue bunches, she feels moments of timelessness, completely absorbed in her work. It’s not however, always ‘smooth picking’. She admits to feeling a sense of urgency when contemplating the sheer amount of picking to be done — the mind rushes, and presence is lost. The shift from urgency to mindfulness in her blueberry harvesting is a reminder that in our full, fast-paced lives, it can be all too easy to get so swept up in what needs to get done, that we aren’t present with what we are doing. Everything changes when we bring our entire being to where we are; our awareness deepens, our experience becomes richer and we open the door to greater insight and peace. { read more }

A Mindful Approach to Time Management

How we spend our hours is how we spend our lives.

– Laura Vanderkam –

A Mindful Approach to Time Management

Do you have dreams you are putting off for that “someday” in the future? Dreams of writing a book, taking a journey that changes your life, creating an organization to help the world, or any other vision that would give more meaning to your life? The cause of putting these dreams off for someday in the future is the lack of focus in our days. We expend too many hours on tasks that have little to do with what is most important to us. Laura Vanderkam addresses these concerns in her discussion about mindfulness in the workplace and our day-to-day lives. She suggests we use each moment mindfully so that we can connect to our purpose for being alive whether it be the simple wish to be a loving force, or to help us on our way to achieving our dreams. { read more }

Be The Change

Make a short, priority list for the next week: Career, Relationships, Self. Put just a few items in each, and see where mindfulness in each moment can help these come to life as the week goes on.
