Slow Medicine–A Conversation with Dr. Victoria Sweet

Slow Medicine--A Conversation with Dr. Victoria SweetWhat would it look like–an intimate, intuitive, deeply skilled medicine, focused on continuing care and observation of the patient, minus computers? It’s not a question most of us can think about these days. Dr. Sweet talks about an unusual hospital where she found amazing insights into this question.

Integral Health Medicine–A Conversation with Dr. Len Saputo

Integral Health Medicine--A Conversation with Dr. Len SaputoLen Saputo’s book, A Return to Healing, is a disturbing read–and a compelling one. Things are terribly out of whack with health care in this country. It’s hard to imagine how one person might make a difference. Yet, agains all odds, there are people passionately dedicated to just that. Here is one of them.

Tools Of Our Tools: The Role Of Technology In Our Lives

A camera is a tool for learning how to see without a camera.

– Dorothea Lange –

Tools Of Our Tools: The Role Of Technology In Our Lives

These days, we function in many ways as the “tools of our tools” — beings bound to our devices and technology. “But even as our ancestors developed tools over time to leverage their muscles, senses and brains, they also developed tools to leverage their soul, or psyche, so as to be composed within themselves, and thus try to establish just and civil societies.” Here Tom Mahon shares his thoughts on the power and place of technology in our lives, and the inner tools that can offer ballast on a personal and societal level. { read more }

Dreaming of a Peaceful World

Although much of the world continues to view nonviolence as a passive and largely ineffectual tactic, peacefulness has indeed been used as a tool for change since before the time of Christ all the way up until the present. In his latest book, âThe Nonviolence Handbookâ, author Michael Nagler explains how to use the practice of nonviolence for the sake of progress and challenging injustice. The following is a list of powerful examples where nonviolent actions have achieved real results throughout the world. { read more }

A Safe Haven In Nepal

I am no bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will.

– Charlotte Bronte –

A Safe Haven In Nepal

2010 CNN Hero of the Year, Anuradha Koirala, started Maiti Nepal (roughly translated to “mother’s home”) to protect Nepali women and girls from crimes such as domestic violence, trafficking, prostitution, child labor, and other forms of exploitation and torture. Since 1993, Maiti Nepal has helped rescue and rehabilitate more than 12,000 women and girls, providing a safe place for them to recover and grow. The children call Koirala “elder sister,” a moniker she accepts with pride. “You have to take each child as your daughter,” Koirala urges, and asks you to join hands to create a society free of human trafficking. { read more }

The 6 Essential Conditions of Creativity

You more likely act yourself into feeling than feel yourself into action.

– -Jerome Bruner- –

The 6 Essential Conditions of Creativity

âSurprise is not easily defined. It is the unexpected that strikes one with wonder or astonishment. What is curious about effective surprise is that it need not be rare or infrequent or bizarre and is often none of these things. Effective surprises ⦠seem rather to have the quality of obviousness about them when they occur, producing a shock of recognition following which there is no longer astonishment.â Maria Popova dives into the mind of Harvard psychologist Jerome Bruner, and his attempts to define creativity, its origins, and its purpose. { read more }
