Today I Lived And You Did Too

Perfect imperfection is a beautiful sight to behold. In fact, it can change the way you look at life… if you simply let it.

– -Rachel Macy Stafford- –

Today I Lived And You Did Too

“I’m going Hands Free. I want to make memories, not to-do-lists. I want to feel the squeeze of my daughter’s arms, not the pressure of over-commitment. I want to get lost in conversation with my spouse, not consumed by a sea of unimportant emails. I want to be overwhelmed by sunsets that give me hope, not by extracurricular commitments that steal my joy. I want the noise of my life to be a mixture of laughter and gratitude, not the intrusive buzz of cell phones and text messages. I am letting go of distraction, disconnection, and perfection to live a life that simply, so very simply, consists of what really matters. I’m going Hands Free. I hope you will join me!” In this poetic blog post, “Hands Free Mama”, Rachel Macy Stafford, shares her heart, and expresses how she chooses to live today. { read more }

Teenage Football Players Conspiracy of Kindness

Without telling their coaches, the football players of Olivet Middle School conspired to execute an extraordinary play at their next home game. Actually, it was two plays. The first was to get as close to the goal line as possible without scoring. And the second? Well, you’ll just have to watch the video to find out. The most remarkable effect of the play? Says one team member, “I went from being somebody who mostly cared about myself and my friends to caring about everyone and trying to make everyone’s day and everyone’s life.” Watch what this group of middle schoolers conspired to do… { read more }

Why Do We Shout In Anger?
by Unknown

[Listen to Audio!]

958.jpgA saint who was once visiting a river to take a bath found a group of family members on the banks, shouting in anger at each other. He turned to his disciples, smiled and asked.

‘Why do people in anger shout at each other?’

The disciples thought for a while, then one of them said, ‘Because we lose our calm, we shout.’

‘But, why should you shout when the other person is just next to you? You can as well tell him what you have to say in a soft manner,’ asked the saint.

The disciples gave some other answers but none satisfied the other disciples.

Finally the saint explained,

‘When two people are angry at each other, their hearts distance a lot. To cover that distance they must shout to be able to hear each other. The angrier they are, the stronger they will have to shout to hear each other to cover that great distance.

What happens when two people fall in love? They don’t shout at each other but talk softly, because their hearts are very close. The distance between them is either nonexistent or very small…’

The saint continued, ‘When they love each other even more, what happens? They do not speak, only whisper and they get even closer to each other in their love. Finally they need not even whisper, they only look at each other and that’s all. That is how close two people are when they love each other.’

He looked at his disciples and said,

‘So when you argue do not let your hearts get distant, do not say words that distance each other more, or else there will come a day when the distance is so great that you will not find the path to return.’

Why Do We Shout In Anger?
What do you make of the relation between the intensity of communication and the closeness of hearts? When we find ourselves in a situation where we are either shouting or being shouted at, how might we transform the situation and bridge the distance that has developed? Can you share a personal experience that illustrates the bridging of this distance?

How to Make Giving Feel Good

Since you get more joy out of giving joy to others, you should put a good deal of thought into the happiness that you are able to give.

– Eleanor Roosevelt –

How to Make Giving Feel Good

“On a fine summer morning in Vancouver, British Columbia, a graduate student approached passersby with a box of envelopes and an unusual request: “Are you willing to be in an experiment?” If people said yes, she asked them how happy they were, got their phone number, and handed them one of her mysterious envelopes. When people opened the envelope, they found a five dollar bill, accompanied by a simple note. For some of them, the note instructed: Please spend this $5.00 today before 5 pm on a gift for yourself or any of your expenses (e.g., rent, bills, or debt). Others found a note that read: Please spend this $5.00 today before 5 pm on a gift for someone else or a donation to charity. In addition, some people got similar envelopes, but with a 20 dollar bill rather than a five. Armed with this extra bit of cash and their instructions about how to spend it, people went on their way. That evening, they received a call asking them how happy they were feeling, as well as how they had spent the money. How did their purchases affect them? This article shares the answer… { read more }

Estonia's Bank of Happiness

A bone to the dog is not charity. Charity is the bone shared with the dog, when you are just as hungry as the dog.

Estonia’s Bank of Happiness

Estonia’s capital, Tallinn, is considered to be one of the world’s leading technological cities – a city in which the majority of transactions occur online. But nestled deep within the constructs and limitations of this digital world, there resides one group — whose sole purpose it is to harness the true power of the Internet for good. This “Bank of Happiness” doesn’t transact in currency or credit, rather, it utilizes the good energy of over 2,000 like-minded, people from all over the word to connect or to offer services free of charge. The Meanings of Life

Professor Roy Baumeister wonders why parents often say: ‘I just want my children to be happy,’ rather than: ‘I just want my children’s lives to be meaningful.” Yet we fear meaninglessness, and when we lose a sense of meaning, we get depressed. What is this thing we call meaning, and why might we need it so badly? This thoughtful article shares more. { read more }
